The Role of Water in Good Natural Health
It’s been SO hot! And now it’s turning cooler…
But no matter what the weather’s doing, the daily, consistent consumption of pure water is
very important to your good health! And I really hope that after you read this simple newsletter you will get up and down a glass of pure water!
Most people are really surprised when I explain to them that their body is comprised of between 60 and 75% water. We may be able to go without food for an extended period of time, but we get into serious trouble (in a matter days) without water. So water is life!
And I must remind all of you that although our planet’s surface is covered by 75% water, only 3% of that water is drinkable! Most of the water that we drink comes from underground wells that are supplied by deep aquifers (underground rivers). So be careful with all chemicals, herbicides, pesticides, fuels, etc. that you throw on the ground and down the kitchen sink. We all have a part to play in keeping the water supply safe and drinkable! Think about what you doing to yourself and your family because your water has to come from somewhere, and so does your neighbor’s!
All right…enough environmental lecturing…let’s get move on to water and health…
If you have read any of my web pages, studied my newspaper columns, or heard me on the radio, you know that I continually stress the “innate intelligence” of the human body. Well, when it comes to the need for water, the body has very specific purposes (plans) for that water. And that’s why I am writing to you this month. Most people think drinking water is a real nuisance…. that is, until they understand why drinking water is so important. Just maybe my little newsletter will inspire you to better health…maybe!
How Does Your Body Use Water?
Cleansing of Toxins and Excessive Hormones
Every moment, of everyday, we are ALL under assault from all sorts of pollutants and xenohormones (foreign hormones) from animal and plant sources. Our bodies were not originally designed to handle this onslaught of toxic overload, which is why cancer and other “pollution” diseases have flourished.
So what does the body do? It steps up the cleansing process! Water is the universal solvent and your body uses it to flush out toxins via your liver, colon, kidneys and skin. BUT if your water consumption is very low, then your poor body has to steal dirty wastewater from your colon to meet its critical needs. This is one of the reasons why so many people have trouble with constipation. They are chronically dehydrated and don’t forget that you have long since been dehydrated (from a blood and tissue perspective) when you notice the sense of feeling thirsty. Your body has been struggling to making “water” ends meet long before that! And I also notice that my skin is dryer when I travel because I usually don’t focus upon drinking enough water, when I travel. And yes, essential fatty acids are very important for glowing, resilient, wrinkle-free skin, but plain, pure water is also a beauty secret!
Manufacture of Blood and Blood Products
I am not going to get into all of the facts I know about blood in this newsletter. I have already planned to educate all of you on the wonders of your blood in a future newsletter.
But you already know that without blood you will simply die. The loss of blood is oftentimes the primary cause of death in people, especially surgical and trauma patients. So needless to say, blood is vital to life! And the subject of blood components is so vital to your understanding of how to maintain good natural health…
But for now, you need to know a few simple facts about your blood,
and its relationship to water:
- Your blood is comprised of 90% water and your blood cells depend heavily upon water for proper functioning. The blood plasma bath that your blood cells float in is almost 100% water.
- Your body uses lots of water to create blood. Part of the process of blood manufacture is the flushing out of old dead blood cells to make way for new, fresh cells. Blood platelets, responsible for life saving clotting, have to be re-made every 10 days. Red blood cells, the largest of all cells, wear out and expire every 120 days. Because the red blood cells contain hemoglobin (the oxygen carrying component of blood) they comprise up to 45% of all of the cells of the body. Without oxygen you die. Healthy, hydrated blood cells means healthy energy (due to richer oxygen levels) and a better elimination of pathogens and toxins from the tissue. Low blood oxygen is one of the primary causes of chronic fatigue.
- The fatty membrane wall that surrounds each cell to protect it from toxins and pathogens using lots of water to repair itself and during normal cell division.
Tissue and Organ Repair/Regeneration
As a result of the constant onslaught of offenses presented to our bodies, the repair/regeneration process is ongoing, day in and day out.
- When a virus or bacteria comes in contact with our any of the openings of our body, the body rushes water-rich mucous to those delicate sites to trap the invaders. Even notice how runny your nose gets (like a faucet) when you first get a cold and how thick the mucous gets the older the cold gets? At the start of the cold your body turns the faucet on and your nose runs and runs, then as the body beats the retroviruses, the water rich mucous production slows down and thickens, then ceases. Water is being used up in copious amounts during the whole process! (Go to
Cold
or Flu to learn more about helping your body during a cold or flu.)
- When bacteria invade the urethra or bladder we can’t stop that feeling of wanting to urinate. We go and go, as the body rushes water to those vital organs to flush out the invader. (Go to
Bladder
Infection to learn more.)
- The entire colon is under constant repair and uses water to make the luxurious, thick mucosal lining that shields the body and blood stream from the toxic waste traveling through the colon tract.
- The eyes are almost pure water and some vision problems (like blurring) can be caused by dehydration. It is not presently (fully) understood how much of a role chronic dehydration plays in the development of glaucoma and macula degeneration. Most seniors take several prescriptions that dehydrate the body and have a poor sense of thirst that lead to chronic dehydration.
So, you need at least 10, 8 oz. glasses of water per day. And I don’t count caffeinated drinks because caffeine depletes the body of water. And I mean PURE water, not tap water! And most certainly not chlorinated!!! Never! And I don’t like artificial colors that promote tumor development, or bone thinning dark soft drinks! Choose natural flavors and if you must drink a soft drink, drink diet 7-up.
Now I know that you read all of this, and it can discourage you. You might be thinking, “You don’t understand! I can’t be drinking water all day! My job…the way I have to run around….you don’t understand!”
Listen I am NOT saying sit down and drink a gallon of water at one time! (That might be dangerous anyway, by upsetting electrolytes). I am saying, “Sip…. sip…sip!”
And get yourself a big water bottle (with a cap) and a built in straw, and carry it everywhere with you. For example: in the car, at your desk, in your gym bag, on your bike, etc.
Keep practicing sipping more water and soon you will feel lost without your water bottle. And when you sip all day you are slowing feeding your body valuable water, and it becomes second nature to do so.
But I promise you, in time, you will begin to notice little improvements, then bigger improvements. Like more energy, better elimination, better breath, smoother skin, sharper thinking, and this is because your whole body is bathed in water and low water affects your whole being adversely.
So drink up my little friends! Salute!
All the best,
Mary
