Home Remedy for Hemorrhoids

A good home remedy for hemorrhoids focuses on pain relief and understanding the underlying causes of hemorrhoids. Most hemorrhoids can be cured with laser surgery, but for many people, this is not an affordable option.

Home Remedy for Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are really varicose veins that swell to cause severe pain and itching. Itching is a mild form of pain. Hemorrhoids occur in an area of the rectum called the hermorrhoidal plexus. The hermorrhoidal plexus is a complex interlacing network of blood vessels that are responsible to drain blood and fluids away from the rectum.

Most people think of varicose veins as developing in the legs, where life-threatening clots can form. Well, clots can form in the varicose veins (hemorrhoids) in the rectum also and cause excruciating pain and swelling. When a clot occurs in the rectum, a doctor can lance the clot in his/her office giving the patient almost immediate relief.

Well, I don’t know about you, but receiving injections to deaden the delicate area and then getting surgically cut to drain an engorged blood vessel clot is not my cup of tea! I would much rather prevent that from happening…. Wouldn’t you?

Home Remedy for Hemorrhoids

  1. First of all we must understand that we develop hemorrhoids. We are not born with them. They are largely preventable. If we gain too much weight we put excessive pressure on the lower part of our body and sometimes it is not avoidable, such as during pregnancy.

  2. Let me tell you plainly that if you don’t drink enough fluids, you will get hardened stools that will strain that area of your body and cause hemorrhoids. You must avoid sugared drinks because sugar dehydrates the body. The last thing you need is more dehydration. Your body requires water for many important things (like creating blood) and it will steal the dirty water in your colon if it has to. This is why people who are chronically constipated feel so sluggish and tired all of the time. Sewer water is circulating in their blood stream.

  3. If you do not consistently take 50 grams of soluble fiber on a daily basis, you will most likely be plagued with hemorrhoid flare-ups and may face having to deal with a rectal clot in the doctor’s office or emergency room.

  4. If your Vitamin C intake is consistently low, then, as you age, the blood vessels throughout your body will be more susceptible to clots, swelling and bulging, especially in vulnerable areas like your rectum, when strain and pressure are usually present.

  5. If you are battling a flare up, pour 1 ½ cups Epsom salts into a very warm sitz bath and then add 5 drops each of Chamomile oil (or 3)chamomile tea bags and eucalyptus oil. Sit quietly in the warm water and relax. After drying off, soak a cotton ball in Witch Hazel and place at the very opening of the rectum and then put on pair of underwear with a pad or a small wad of toilet paper to catch any of the witch hazel and keep your underwear dry. Witch hazel shrinks the engorged vessels and stops the itching.

  6. Once the flare-up is brought under control, then don’t delay in starting your fiber regimen each evening before bedtime. Start out with ½ tsp. of psyllium fiber in a glass of water and build up to whatever your body needs to create soft, easily moveable stools. You will know what is just right for your body. Some people only need ½ teaspoon a night, others need a full tablespoon. Do what works for you.

  7. Keep a water bottle with a capped plastic straw full of sugarless fluid and sip on it throughout the day. Take it everywhere, and make drinking fluids almost an unconscious thing. Once it becomes a habit, you will feel lost without it and will look for your bottle.

  8. Munch on raw veggies and apples for fiber. Choose baked sweet potatoes, instead of white flour starches, for their fiber content. Eat as much raw nuts as you can for both the fiber and the omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, not to mention being enzyme rich!

  9. Walk as much as you can to encourage your colon to get stimulated to empty its contents. Sitting at a desk all day, or in a car seat, is a good way to develop hemorrhoids.

  10. Breathe…good deep breaths! Stress promotes hemorrhoids. Stress hormones and adrenal chemicals constrict blood vessels, locking them up. When you feel overwhelmed with life, stop and take several long minutes to breathe and relax! Just try it!

Now remember to use good judgment when it comes to dealing with hemorrhoids. If you see blood (this includes bright red blood which usually doesn’t mean cancer) you should get checked out, just to be sure. A simple stool test could save your life. If the doctor says to you, “Well, it is hemorrhoids”, then consider following the previous ten steps. Most people (who don’t correct their diet) go on to develop more hemorrhoids after surgery. So, removing or destroying hemorrhoids with a laser won’t keep them from coming back if natural measures are not followed to correct the things that caused the problem in the first place. Haven’t you noticed that there aren’t any good, lasting short cuts to dealing with health problems? It didn’t happen overnight, and it won’t be solved overnight! It’s going to take a little time…so do these simple things. Be consistent with your fiber!
