Remedy for Baldness
Remedy for Baldness / A Little Background
The medical term for baldness, or hair loss, is alopecia.
There are four distinct types of hair loss:
- The most common type is androgenetic alopecia, or male pattern baldness, which can affect women, although not as extensively.
- The second most common type is alopecia totalis, which is the total loss of all scalp hair.
- The third most common type is alopecia areata, which is when the hair falls out in patches.
- The fourth type, which is uncommon, is alopecia universalis, and that is when all body hair falls out, i.e. eyebrows, eyelashes, pubic hair, etc. The person becomes completely hairless.
Baldness, or loss of hair, is actually a complex issue. It affects us psychologically and may signal an underlying health problem.
Researchers point to several factors in hair loss: hormones, nutritional deficiencies, aging, stress, and genetics. The newest research indicates that some balding may be caused by a faulty immune response in which the immune system mistakenly identifies hair follicles as foreign invaders and attacks and destroys them. (This is known as an autoimmune response, which occurs in other autoimmune illnesses such as rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus, etc.)
I also believe that some people are actually allergic to their shampoo and this causes them to lose their hair as an allergic reaction to the chemicals in the shampoo. (I use only natural shampoo/conditioners on my hair)
Natures Gate is a good brand, but there are several. One example is Natures Gate Herbal Aloe Vera Shampoo
.
Low thyroid function in both men and women is also an established culprit for promoting balding. Hair loss can also occur up to 2 months AFTER a major life trauma, or high stress event.

My Nutritional Remedy for Baldness
Step One: Correct Underlying Nutrient Deficiencies
- Become protein savvy and eat between 40-60 grams of protein everyday (raw nuts, lean fish and meat, whey shakes, yogurt, etc.). Hair is mostly protein (keratin) and both inadequate and excessive protein intake will promote hair loss. But most people do not eat adequate protein.
- Correct underlying vitamin and mineral deficiencies by taking a comprehensive multi vitamin such as Natrol My Favorite Multi without Iron capsules
. If you study the label you will note that it has all of the B vitamins, including
biotin, and about sixty other critical nutrients. Follow instructions on the label.
- Never eat raw eggs because raw eggs are high in a chemical known as avidin, and this chemical blocks biotin
from being absorbed in the body. Biotin is critical for healthy skin and hair. In order to prevent an imbalance with the other B vitamins I recommend taking the multivitamin, which contains every one of them. You can take more biotin , but make sure you take a complex that contains the whole B group.

Step Two-Correct Underlying Hormone Imbalances
- If you are male, take 320 mg. Saw Palmetto Extract
daily to regulate Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the main androgen hormone that is largely responsible for male balding. This androgen hormone is also responsible for benign prostate enlargement. (When was the last time you had your prostate check-up? Shame on your if you don’t know your “prostate number”.) DHT naturally rises with age and can cause quite a few problems, including impotence.
- If you are female, I have to suggest that you see your doctor. There are too many things that could be going wrong to simply guess. It could be your thyroid, your ovaries, menopause, male hormone imbalance, silent infection in your body, or way too much stress in your life. I think that you need to look into it.

Step Three-Increasing Circulation and Avoiding Injury
- Wet hair is very delicate. Don’t jerk on your hair when it is wet.
- Learn the value of massaging your scalp and brushing in good circulation to your hair follicles. Invest in a good natural bristle brush, which feels wonderful on your scalp. I actually think that a good hairbrush relives tension in my head.
- Once per week, detox your hair follicles by shampooing with a concoction of your shampoo with a small amount of peppermint oil and some ripe grapefruit juice. Your scalp will tingle with stimulation, and your clean hair will shine. It helps get rid of the dull build up and pollution that sinks down to deprive your hair follicles of oxygen.
- Avoid a hot blow dryer. Use the cool setting to seal in moisture in your hair.
I would suggest seeing a doctor if you have a sudden loss of hair, or see a sizable amount of hair in the shower drain that has suddenly occurred. This could indicate a number of things, including chemical poisoning. (One man came into the store and mentioned this. I sent him to the doctor who diagnosed him with herbicide poisoning from treating his lawn with herbicides.) Some people also continually shed their hair from mercury poisoning from dental fillings that contain mercury. Several heavy metals, including lead, cause hair loss.
